My plan to cycle from Southampton to Bordeaux didn't come to fruition. I rode to Nantes, then took a train from there. But I had a wonderful month in the city when I got there. We indulged in the stereotypes: cheap red wine, cheese boards at breakfast, lounging in plazas and by riversides. Our bikes and relatively empty schedules afforded us time to take mini-breaks to other parts of France, too. Carcassonne, Lourdes, the Pyrenees. All beautiful. The background image on this page is a path that leads from France to Spain, over the mountain range. It's my plan to go back and walk it someday.
