The disgusting businessman in the new Jurassic Park film baulks at making $4,000,000 for a few minutes work, stating “four million is a slow Tuesday for me”.
Though the amounts are incomprehensible, his habit of evaluating tasks by earning potential relative to the time it takes to do them is a good one.
For example: picking up the phone and asking for receipts from a budget hotel I sometimes stay in for work just allowed me to chip ~£14 off of this year’s tax bill.
I don’t have the cash in my hand now, obviously, and the tedious prospect of the call nearly made me not bother. But thinking through this default and flawed logic is worthwhile, and worth practising.
